Food for Clear Skin

People think that applying different types of lotions and creams can help them have a fresh and young-looking skin. However, this is not completely true, mainly because what we eat affects our skin and complexion the most.

There are various types of food that can contribute to the health of our skin. What is more, we should always drink lots of water to hydrate the skin cells.

Here are the types of food that we can eat for a healthier and youthful skin.

1. Salmon

Salmon is a fish that lives in fresh water. This fish is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids. Furthermore, it is a good source of protein that contains low unhealthy fat and sodium. It can be eaten raw like sushi, or cooked.

2. Dark Green Vegetables

The greener the better, but we must eat all color-type of vegetables daily because they are rich in antioxidants. Dark green vegetables have lots of vitamins, including E and D.

These vitamins are the main vitamins for skin cell production and renewal. Insufficient supply of vegetables in our body decreases vitamins E and D.

Thus makes our skin look older, dry and sometimes pale. Some of the vegetables with high content of vitamins are broccoli, bitter gourd, cauliflower, kale, spinach etc.

3. Nuts and Seeds

Nuts are rich in essential fatty acids, either omega-6 or omega-3 fatty acids. These help our skin produce oils for moisture, especially for dry skin. These essential fatty acids are so-called amino acids, that help the body prevent different kinds of illnesses, such as heart ailment and other cardiovascular system-related diseases.

4. Berries

The family of berries are considered very healthy and have antioxidant properties. Doctors say the darker the color, the better the berry is for our health. These can be blueberries, strawberries, and cranberries. Berries are very high in nutrients and can reduce the risk of cancer and increase our immune system.

They also have great benefits for our skin, because they contains anti-aging substances and help regulate the flow of blood throughout the body.

5. Citrus Fruits

Vitamin C is the number one vitamin that helps our skin heal faster if we have bruises or wounds. Vitamin C makes our skin glow.

The main source for vitamin C are citrus fruits that help our immune system boost the body’s natural defenses against diseases and viruses. What is more, it’s necessary for the production of collagen.

6. Red Meat

Some people think that eating vegetables and fruits alone is healthy. However, we must have a balanced diet and include all of the food groups in our meals.

We also need red meat since our body has 36-42 percent of muscles that need protein. But, we must eat it in the right amounts, as it is also unhealthy if we eat too much of it. Red meat is also rich in iron that helps prevent anemia.

Anemia is a blood condition that can affect our skin. It can be manifested with bags under our eyes and a pale, sickly complexion.
